Course Description

Great leadership is  more than setting goals and allocate tasks; it is about the human aspect of inspiring and motivating people to give their best. The best leaders connect with their team on a human level, and create a sense of shared purpose that makes people feel seen and valued.

This course equips current and aspiring leaders to apply empathy in practical, real-world workplace situations to build stronger, higher-performing teams. Participants will develop the ability to recognise others’ perspectives, respond with sensitivity, and adapt their leadership style to effectively meet diverse needs, resulting in enhanced trust and collaboration.

Through experiential activities, reflection, and applied frameworks, participants learn the transformative power of  empathic leadership, and how it supports team engagement, staff motivation, and psychological safety, all of which drive long-term organisational success. 

These transferable competencies are highly valued across sectors including corporate, education, healthcare, and social services. By modelling empathic leadership, participants position themselves as credible and adaptable professionals ready for advancement into supervisory, managerial, or mentoring roles, contributing to stronger, more resilient, and motivated teams.

Understanding the Importance of Empathy in Leadership

Learn the role of empathy as a core leadership competency and how it shapes trust, morale, and productivity.

Applying Empathic Listening

Practice active and empathic listening techniques to understand employees’ perspectives and respond with clarity and respect.

Balancing Empathy and Authority

Learn to navigate the balance between empathy and authority, ensuring compassion does not compromise accountability or performance.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Recognise the importance of empathy in leadership competency and how it affects productivity and morale

  • Understand the science and psychology behind empathy; cognitive, emotional, and behavioural, and how it influences decision-making and communication.

  • Use empathic listening techniques to make employees feel seen and heard

  • Apply strategies to build psychological safety, strengthen feedback culture, and manage diverse team dynamics.

  • Manage the delicate balance between empathy and authority, remaining compassionate while not compromising on performance.

  • Gain strategies to manage conflict constructively, give feedback with clarity and care, and foster inclusive, high-performing team cultures.

  • Lead with both heart and clarity, fostering collaboration, innovation, and resilience within their teams while achieving organisational goals
