Whether you are working with youth-at-risk; youths with difficulties coping or those who seem to be getting into all sorts of trouble that seem to be self-inflicted.
Do you know what they are trying to communicate through their behaviours? Can you make sense of their world? Or accept that what you see or experience is the result of their inner state – the turmoil and confusion they are experiencing that they cannot make sense of?
Their behaviours may be the result of the environments they were exposed to – if you cannot change these or make things better, how then can you be of help to them?
This course is eligible for SkillsFuture Credit and other subsidies. Eligibility for funding is subject to SkillsFuture Singapore’s terms and conditions (e.g. attendance and assessment requirements).
Mentoring for youths is not about how you can take charge of and help them resolve their issues. It’s about your willingness to experience their world and understanding what they are feeling and facing.
A youth mentor is someone who is trusted and invited into their world – to walk alongside them. To empower them to resolve the challenges they face with patience and guidance.
Because there isn’t a one-size fits all approach, you will be equipped with communication and mentoring techniques that have been time tested and proven to be effective. You will better understand their developmental needs so you can apply appropriate mentoring strategies to guide them.
Our Mentoring for Youths adopts a systemic ABCD approach to help you be a more effective mentor.
