safeTALK - Suicide Awareness Workshop
Course Description
safeTALK is a specialized workshop designed to provide participants with the skills to identify and support individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts.
Participants will learn how to recognize warning signs, engage in open and non-judgmental communication, and guide at-risk individuals toward appropriate help. This evidence-based training ensures participants can confidently handle sensitive situations and foster a culture of safety and support.
At the end of the programme, participants will receive a certificate accredited by LivingWorks International for the safeTALK programme.
Objectives:
- Provide participants with a structured framework for identifying and addressing suicide risks among youths.
- Build confidence in initiating conversations about suicide in a respectful and empathetic manner.
- Equip participants with the tools to connect individuals at risk with appropriate resources and support.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Notice and respond to situations where suicide thoughts may be present,
- Recognize that invitations for help are often overlooked,
- Move beyond the common tendency to miss, dismiss, and avoid suicide,
- Apply the TALK steps: Tell, Ask, Listen, KeepSafe, and
- Know community resources and how to connect someone with thoughts of suicide to them for further suicide-safer help
