Peer Support Skills and Managing Resistant Behaviours

Course Description

This workshop equips individuals with essential skills to support their peers and handle resistant behaviours effectively. The first half introduces psychological first aid principles to help individuals identify and respond to emotional distress with empathy. The second half focuses on understanding resistance and applying communication techniques to foster trust and cooperation, ensuring a safe and inclusive experience for all participants.

Objectives:

  1. Equip individuals with practical peer support and psychological first aid skills to identify and address mental health challenges effectively.
  2. Develop confidence in engaging peers displaying resistant behaviours.
  3. Foster a supportive and collaborative environment for to engage with mental well-being.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Participants will understand key principles of peer support and psychological first aid.
  • Participants will acquire tools to de-escalate resistance and engage constructively with individuals in distress.
  • Participants will enhance their ability to maintain rapport and motivate reluctant individuals.
